Integrated Health Care : Physical & Psychological
Managing Health Risks
At the Aditya Birla Group, we develop, update and keep reviewing our systematic, standardized, and proactive process to identify, evaluate, and control workplace health risks – that can help achieving objective across businesses and geographies.
Few examples of key risk categories:
1. Occupational Exposure
2. Ergonomics
Evaluation of workstation design, work posture, and material handling practices to prevent musculoskeletal disorders.
3. Heat Stress
Assessment of environmental, personal and work-related factors to prevent heat-related illnesses, supported by on-site measurements and control strategies.
4. Psychological Stress
Identification of work-related, domestic and expatriate stressors and implementation of measures to protect psychological well-being.
5. Respiratory Protection
Evaluation of airborne hazards, proper selection of respiratory protective equipment, and fit-testing programmes.

We have developed a suite of user-friendly tools for risk assessments. These tools ensure that evaluations are consistent, comprehensive, and aligned with global best practices. To ensure quality and reliability, we have pre-approved competent service providers who are trained in our protocols and equipped to conduct specialized assessments. This allows our sites to access expert services quickly while maintaining uniform standards across the Group. This structured, end-to-end approach helps us not only comply with regulations but go beyond compliance — creating safer, healthier, and more productive workplaces.
Our WASH Commitment
In early 2015, Aditya Birla Group formalized our commitment to workplace Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) standards by endorsing the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Pledge for Access to safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at the workplace. This pledge represents a collaborative commitment among leading organizations to ensure access to safe drinking water for employees and extends support to broader communities.
The WASH initiative aligns with our sustainability objectives and reinforces the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to "Ensure access to water and sanitation for all." By embracing this pledge, we have strengthened our organizational commitment to providing comprehensive water, sanitation, and hygiene access to our workforce across all operational boundaries and geographical locations.
This commitment has driven systematic efforts across our operations, encompassing over 240 sites globally, to ensure that safe drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities, and proper hygiene infrastructure are available to all employees within our operational premises.
To achieve this, we have established comprehensive standard and guidance note on general hygiene, sanitation, and potable water management that provide our sites with clear frameworks for implementation. These guidelines ensure consistency across our operations while allowing sites the flexibility to adapt to local conditions and requirements. We were signatories to the WASH Pledge.

Heat stress management at workplace
ABG has identified a three-step approach to assess & address heat stress at workplace environments.

1. Qualitative assessment of workplace heat stress
2. Quantitative assessment using Thermal Work Limit (TWL) equipment
Quantitative assessment of workplace heat stress is conducted at identified high-risk workplaces through qualitative assessment results. TWL calculates dry-wet-globe temperature, humidity, air velocity, and Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) while providing readings in metabolic rate, enabling us to categorize our workplaces and processes into high, moderate, and low risk categories.
3. Physiological monitoring
To implement physiological monitoring of employees and workers who are exposed to high-risk workplaces and processes, allowing us to identify high-risk individuals working in high-risk environments who require extra care and attention to prevent any incidents of heat stress.
