Digital For Sustainability
At Aditya Birla Group (ABG), we leverage digital transformation under the banner of Digital for Sustainability (D4S) to drive sustainability excellence, ensuring data-driven decision-making, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across all businesses. Our digital initiatives not only enhance transparency and governance but also empower employees with the right tools to foster a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace.

Enterprise-Wide Digital Enablement
Our enterprise-wide platform, ENABLON, empowers over 22,500 users to self-assess and report performance through its various modules. These include auditable Self-Assessment Questionnaires (SAQs) supported by evidence such as documents and photographs, incident management reporting, the metrics module, the action plan module, and more. This system ensures alignment with local laws and global standards, driving uniformity, traceability, and real-time decision-making across the Group. With over 22,500 licenses across 178 manufacturing sites, 35 retail clusters, and over 700 offices, the deployment of ENABLON over twelve years has enabled a transformative shift in the data management approach.
The scale of ENABLON’s operations reflects its impact. It manages over 51,000 active legal requirements across Indian operations, tracks nearly 140,000 compliance tasks annually, and consolidates more than 15,000 sustainability KPIs across businesses. It also logs and monitors more than 1.2 million safety-related risks every year achieved through a lean central team supported by automation and advanced analytics.
Safety and Risk Intelligence
Safety management is strengthened through ENABLON’s Incident Management Module, which integrates the globally recognised TapRooT® methodology for structured root-cause analysis. This ensures incidents and near misses are investigated systematically to prevent recurrence. A suite of complementary modules supports behaviour-based safety observations, industrial hygiene, enterprise risk management, and compliance monitoring.
New capabilities are being rolled out to extend this framework. In FY25, modules for Change Management and Process Safety Reporting were introduced, enabling controlled implementation of operational changes and systematic tracking of Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4 process safety events. More than 15,000 such events have already been captured, with tiered alerts now embedded in executive dashboards and review cycles.
AI is also being integrated into risk intelligence. The Describe It module enables multilingual incident reporting and provides real-time quality scoring of narratives, while the Risk AI Advisor monitors risk precursors continuously, using predictive analytics to forecast Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) potential. These features provide custom dashboards that highlight hazards at the business, site, and department level, strengthening preventive action.
GeoSUST
To complement enterprise-wide platforms, we have developed GeoSUST, a geo-database that consolidates environmental datasets including water, biodiversity, climate, and social indicators sourced from reliable global tools, satellite imagery, and Indian government portals. These datasets are regularly updated as new information is released by the respective agencies.
GeoSUST enables businesses:

To provide environmental, climate, and biodiversity risks across business locations using spatial data, enabling proactive risk mitigation and informed decision-making.

Environmental & Social (E&S) screening for new projects, mergers & acquisitions

Preparation of E&S reports for existing projects
Integration and Automation
To ensure interoperability and ease of use, ENABLON is supported by strong integration capabilities. Blink enables autonomous data extraction through OData v4, compatible with BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, and Excel. Single Sign-On (SSO) improves both convenience and system security. E-Vision, the Group’s e-permit system, strengthens risk control by ensuring permits are issued only after all mandatory safety checks are complete.
These systems are underpinned by an integration backbone that includes SAP XI/PI, SAP.NET connectors, ODBC drivers, XML RPC for systems like Oracle and PeopleSoft, and JSON services for mobile and scalable connectivity. Together, they provide a seamless digital infrastructure for sustainability.
Data Integration and ESG Performance
To ensure ESG data is consolidated and actionable, the Group has developed the ESG360 Accelerator. This platform integrates ESG KPIs from multiple systems into the Group Sustainability Data Lake (GS-DL). It provides single-window access to ESG performance across Hindalco, UltraTech Cement, ABFRL, and Grasim, with phased deployment underway for other businesses. Key features include automated data consolidation, peer benchmarking, simulation models, digitised BRSR reporting, and structured workflows to support ESG rating improvements.

Where supplier sustainability is concerned, our Group leverages PositiivPlus, a dedicated platform for supplier assessments, engagement, and risk tracking. More details on this initiative can be found in the Supplier Sustainability chapter.

The Road Ahead
The future of digital for sustainability at ABG is to move beyond monitoring and compliance towards predictive capability. Work is already underway to develop AI-driven models for environmental and safety data, enabling proactive insights that can guide operational decisions and long-term strategy. By combining automation, advanced analytics, and predictive intelligence, we aim to further strengthen our ability to anticipate risks, reduce safety risks and environmental impacts, and accelerate the Group’s sustainability transformation.
