Managing Operations, Plants & Facilities

As a Group operating in 34 countries, we wish to reach higher standards and rise from legal compliance to compliance with international standards and external expectations placed on a multinational conglomerate of our size.

To do this, we are developing our management systems and widening our view to include a few new topics. Areas for continual improvement include: safety, health and sanitation, carbon, pollution and supply chain management. New focus areas include: biodiversity, product stewardship land and human rights management.

As we improve our control over these areas, then we ought to be able to manage and reduce our impact on our people and on our externalities. When more businesses reduce their cumulative impacts on the planet, everyone, including us, will have to adapt less to the smaller changes we all are causing.

Aligning Our Operations

At ABG, we plan to improve our performance by aligning our operations with the Aditya Birla Group Sustainable Business Framework, which in itself is aligned to the International Standards as defined by:

  • International Finance Corporation (IFC)
  • International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO)
  • Social Accountability
  • Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS)
  • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
  • UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights
  • United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)
  • United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI)
  • AA1000 AccountAbility Stakeholder Engagement Standard - AA1000APS 2008 principles
  • Aluminium Sustainability Initiative (ASI)
